Summer Housing | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Summer housing is for students who will be attending summer classes at UNC Charlotte or for current UNC Charlotte students who need continuous housing between Spring 2008 and Fall 2008 semesters. To apply for summer housing, log in to the Nyumba Student Gateway and choose "Create or Edit Application" under the menu header + Housing Applications. On the page that opens, you will see a list of applications that you can complete and submit. This year, there are TWO summer housing application options:
If you are attending summer school, select the application that matches the term(s) in which you will be taking classes. If you are taking classes in BOTH terms, you will need to complete BOTH housing applications. You only need to pay ONE $50.00 Summer Housing Deposit. If you need to live on-campus continuously from the end of spring semester to the beginning of fall semester you must complete both a 1st Term and a 2nd Term application online. Please note that even though you are completing both applications, you only need to pay a single $50.00 summer housing deposit. ELIGIBILITY - In order to be eligible for summer housing, you must be registered for summer classes at UNC Charlotte OR be an enrolled UNC Charlotte student for Spring 2008 and pre-registered for Fall 2008 classes. Incoming freshmen who are not enrolled in Summer school, may NOT live in summer housing. OCCUPANCY - The Summer Contract for Residential Services has the following occupancy periods: May 26, 2008 - July 2, 2008 for the 1st Term and July 6, 2008 - August 12, 2008 for the 2nd Term. Existing Spring 2008 residents may be granted approval to move into or remain in University summer housing before and beyond the period of occupancy outlined above. This extended occupancy authorization is to enable current residents to smoothly make housing transitions between the full academic semesters and the summer term(s). If approved for extended occupancy beyond the dates outlined above, the student agrees that all other terms and conditions of the Summer Contract for Residential Services apply throughout the duration of the extended occupancy.
LOCATION - Summer residents will be housed in Martin Village apartments. Apartments have four 1-person bedrooms, a kitchen, a living/dining area, and a bathroom.
SPRING RESIDENTS – HOUSING FROM MAY 9 TO MAY 18 Where you stay during the week before check-in to summer housing will depend on where you live now. Check the information below to determine what you should do. Housing staff will be notified about where you will be living after the halls close on May 9, and (if applicable), your ID card with give you access to the appropriate building. If you currently live in Cedar, Hawthorn, Hickory, Holshouser, Laurel, Martin Village/Phase III (except authorized clean and stay residents – see note below), Oak, or Sycamore, you must move to temporary housing in Scott Hall. Please be completely moved out of your current assignment (and properly checked out) by 12:00 noon on Friday, May 9. Check-in to Scott Hall for temporary housing will be on Friday, May 9, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
If you currently live in Elm, Hunt Village, Lynch, Maple, Moore, Pine, Sanford, Scott, or Witherspoon, you may stay where you are until check-in on Saturday, May 17 or Sunday, May 18. We will notify staff that you may stay beyond the May 9 check-out deadline. Greek Village Residents remaining in the organization houses for the summer will be coordinated through the Greek Village Residence Coordinator. STORAGE - If you must move to temporary housing in Scott Hall, we will put you in a single room by yourself so you will have plenty of room for your belongings and can avoid having to store them. ROOMMATE REQUESTS - Every effort is made to honor roommate requests if all roommates submit housing applications to the Housing and Residence Life at least three weeks prior to the applicable check-in date, if all requests are mutual and include correct identification numbers, and if space is available. SUMMER RATES - Below are housing and dining rates for 2008 Summer Housing. Apartment residents are not required to purchase meal plans, but may do so if they wish.
MEAL PLAN - Apartment residents are not required to purchase meal plans, but may do so if they wish. The summer meal plan is a declining balance type where the student’s 49er ID card is used like a debit card at any food service facility open on campus. Dining service will be available seven days a week during the period from May 27, 2008 through August 12, 2008, with the exception of July 4th. Because ID cards with declining balance have the same value as cash, please report lost cards immediately to the ID Office (Cone Center cafeteria, 704-687-2216). Replacement cost for a lost ID card is $10.00. 49ER ACCOUNT - Also available to students is the 49er Account, which can be used not only in Dining Services, but also for campus laundry machines, the University Bookstore, vending, copiers, computer lab printers, the SAC game room, and the Cone Center candy counter. Students may add a 49er Account in the ID Office (located in the Cone University Center) in the Meal Plans, 49er Card, and Insurance Office (located in the Auxiliary Services Building), or at any of the four VTS machines located in the library (first and second floors), Barnard, and the Residence Dining Hall (RDH). ROOM ASSIGNMENT – Students will be notified via their UNC Charlotte e-mail account when they should check their Nyumba account for their summer assignment. If you apply late and do not receive your room assignment via e-mail, pick it up in the Housing and Residence Life Office in Scott Hall. You will have a room if we accept your housing application and $50.00 deposit. LATE ARRIVALS - You must check in by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 for 1st Session (the end of the first official day of classes) or 5:00 PM on July 7 for 2nd Session, to avoid cancellation of your housing contract application and pro-rated housing charges. If you must arrive late, please notify the Department of Housing and Residence Life in writing or via e-mail . Include your name, student identification number, room assignment (if you know it), the date and time of your expected arrival, and a phone number so we can contact you. This will enable us to make check-in arrangements for you. IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND - If you decide at some point that you won’t need campus housing during the summer, BE SURE to cancel your summer school housing application. Cancellations must be in writing or submitted via the Nyumba Student Gateway and should be sent to the Department of Housing and Residence Life. See the following summer cancellation section for details about cancellation deadlines and financial obligations. Our mailing address is:
CHECK-IN for summer sessions will take place by the following schedule: First Summer Term
Second Summer Term
CHECK-OUT IN AUGUST - Many summer housing residents who are assigned to campus housing for the Fall 2008 semester will be able to move directly from their Summer apartment to their Fall assignment. In some cases, Fall assignments may not yet be available because of cleaning schedules, and temporary housing will be provided in Scott Hall. If you will be living off campus during the Fall semester, you must be moved and checked out of your Summer apartment by 7:00 PM of Tuesday, August 12, 2008. We look forward to seeing you this summer! You will receive more information upon checking in, but feel free to call us at (704) 687-7501 if you have any questions or concerns.
