FAQ Details: Cancelling a Contract and Application

To cancel residential services, you must submit a written request for termination of the Contract that contains your full name, permanent home address, date of birth, the effective date for the cancellation, and the reason you want to cancel.

Requests should be sent to the Assignments Office. You may also cancel your contract in person by coming to the Assignments Office.

The date of receipt of the written request for termination will determine your financial obligation to the University. The date of receipt is determined by the postmark.

Cancellation Related Dates & Cost Information can be found here.

Not Returning for Spring 2008?

If you have decided not to return to campus housing for the spring semester, please do not forget that you need to cancel your housing contract. Please note that only those students who have contracted to live on campus during the Spring 2008 semester may stay in housing during the Winter Break. Residents who have cancelled their housing and are not returning for the Spring 2008 semester must be moved out by 9:00 AM on Sunday, December 16. Staying past 9:00 AM will result in a charge of $100 per day (or part of day).

Express Checkout

If you are not returning for the spring, and have canceled our housing contract, you may check out by completing an Express Checkout (envelopes available at area displays). You do not lose your appeal rights using Express Checkout, but you will not be present when staff inspect your room for damages. Your belongings should be removed, the room cleaned, and all original furniture in place before you drop off your key. The Resident Advisor (RA) or Resident Manager (RM) will check your room for damages (based on the Condition Report completed when you moved in). The RA/RM will note damages and sign the report.

To avoid being billed for a lock change, please put your key into the Express Checkout envelope and drop it into the box in your area. These boxes are located in building lobbies, near the RC's office. Hunt Village residents should drop envelopes into the box specifically designated for Hunt Village residents located in the Holshouser lobby.

If you have not already done so, stop by the Housing and Residence Life Assignments Office in Scott Hall to cancel your housing. You have to cancel by December 1 to get your $100 deposit back; be sure to cancel by December 14 to keep from being assessed the $500 liquidation fee and prorated housing charges.
