Important Information

Thank you for considering the many housing options available to you as a new 49er!

You may apply for housing any time after your acceptance to UNC Charlotte. There is no cutoff date to apply; however, you are encouraged to apply early to avoid potential placement on a wait list.

In order to apply for housing, please visit the Nyumba Student Gateway and follow the directions to log on. All you need to create a new Nyumba account is your UNC Charlotte Student ID Number, your 49er Account E-mail Address, and your date of birth.

If you have any problems logging on to the Nyumba Student Gateway, please call our HelpDesk for personal assistance, at (704) 687-7522. You may also e-mail us at housing@uncc.edu.

The Assignments Office begins to make the new assignments for fall in early May, so you can look for your new UNC Charlotte housing assignment beginning then.

Welcome to Housing & Residence Life

Congratulations on your recent admission to The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and thanks for taking a minute to log on to our Postmark: Charlotte website. This microsite is hosted by the Department of Housing and Residence Life as an extension of our postcard program ... the first of which you are holding right now!

Please read a letter of welcome from our Director. We are delighted that you have chosen UNC Charlotte, and are ready to assist you in any way we can as you begin your journey through higher education.

Applying for your on-campus housing couldn't be easier! All you need is your University ID number, your 49er e-mail account, and your birthdate. The first two you receive from the Undergraduate Admissions Office or the Graduate Admissions Office, and the third you already know. Once you have all three of those pieces of information, simply log on to the Nyumba Student Gateway, and follow the instructions to activate your Nyumba account. If you are having any difficulty following the instructions, please contact our office for assistance.

After activating your account, you can use your Nyumba account to apply for housing, apply to participate in a Learning Community, and apply for a meal plan.

We encourage you to activate your Nyumba account as soon as you receive your student ID number and your 49er e-mail address. Assignment to housing space is based in part on the date of the completion of your housing application, so the earlier you activate your Nyumba account and apply, the better chance you have of receiving the housing you prefer.

The date your application is marked as "complete" is the date when all required information and payment has been received. So, the sooner you get your application for housing submitted, print out and mail or fax us your "Under 18" form if necessary, and pay your deposit, the more likely you'll be in getting the assignment you want.

If you are interested in finding out more about the details of how the Assignments Office determines what housing assignment new students receive, you may click on this link. Also available is an Assignments FAQ, which will answer many questions you may have concerning the details of getting an assignment.

We hope you will consider living with us in the upcoming academic year. Please explore our website for more information about campus housing. If there are any questions we can answer or concerns we can address for you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Again, congratulations on your recent admission to The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and we look forward to welcoming you to your home in the heart of Niner Nation next fall.
