The Resident Advisor/Resident Manager Selection Committee would like to thank you for your interest in being a Resident Advisor (RA) or Resident Manager (RM) for the Department of Housing and Residence Life. We believe that working as an RA or RM can be an extremely rewarding experience!
The information on this site has been prepared to assist you in making an educated decision about whether the RA or RM position is for you. Your application will be screened to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for the position. After this initial review, you will either continue on
to the interview process or you will be removed from the candidate pool.
At this time, we are accepting applications for vacancies we anticipate for the Fall 2008 semester. Applications may be downloaded here and are also available at the desk or each residential area and the Housing and Residence Life Office in Scott Hall. Applications are due by 5:00 PM on Friday, February 1, 2008!
The information packet below contains an overview of the primary job responsibilities, the minimum job requirements, the selection timeline, a description of the compensation package, and the application. If you have further questions about the RA or RM position contact the Department of Housing and Residence Life.

Primary Job Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership to residents
- Assist students with personal and academic concerns
- Help resolve group conflicts that may arise
- Encourage a cooperative and considerate living environment
- Build a positive and inclusive community
- Initiate and organize floor, suite, apartment, or hall activities and programs
- Serve as an informational resource about campus and residential life
- Attend weekly meetings, Departmental functions, and RA/RM training sessions
- Serve on duty in assigned residential area on a rotating basis with other staff members
Minimum Job Requirements
- Possess a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or above at the time of application
- Maintain good disciplinary standing
- Must be able to fulfill all RA/RM position responsibilities as stated in the Work Agreement
- Co-ops, student teaching and/or nursing clinicals are not permitted
- Limit outside work hours and commitments
- Complete the Peer Leadership Class during your first semester as an RA/RM
- Purchase a meal plan if you are selected as a Highrise or Suite RA
- Hold the RA/RM position as the principal non-academic activity
- Seek approval for social, community and/or extracurricular activities such as pledging a fraternity or sorority or holding an executive officer position
Compensation Package
For each semester you will earn:
- A credit to your student account for housing, basic cable, Internet, and phone service
- A $500.00 educational stipend credited to your student account (for RAs) and a $200.00 educational stipend credited to your student account (for RMs)
- Highrise and Suite RAs where meal plans are required: A $300.00 meal plan credit to your student account which reduces the total cost of the required meal plan
