Raquel Cothran

Ms. Raquel Dailey

Raquel is Residence Coordinator for Holshouser Hall and also for Hunt Village. She achieved her Masters Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Before she came to UNC Charlotte, Raquel was employed as a Spanish teacher at Kecoughtan High School in Hampton, Virginia.

Raquel considers West Haven, Connecticut her hometown.

Raquel is a member of two national housing organizations: ACPA and NASPA.

Since coming to Charlotte, Raquel has discovered Boardwalk Billy's Restaurant. She also likes outdoor concerts and open mike nights at clubs, loves going bowling or shopping, but is equally content to stay home and read a good book. She says there's always something fun to do in Charlotte.

Raquel says she wanted to be a Residence Coordinator at UNC Charlotte because "the opportunity of working with a diverse group of students on a young and growing campus" was primary to her professional development. Housing and Residence Life is "a department that allows me to gain many different experiences across campus." She says she's also found out that it is very HOT in Charlotte in the summer - does she mean temperature...?


Kevin Gaugenbaugh

Kevin is a Graduate Assistant in Moore Hall,working with The Greenhouse. Kevin's BA degree in Philosophy was awarded by the University of Scranton. Before becoming a GA at UNC Charlotte, Kevin worked for four years in the Campus Ministry division of Student Affairs at US.

Kevin's hometown is Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Professional connections that Kevin has include Catholic Campus Ministry Association; the American Counseling Association; Mu Tau Beta, UNC Charlotte Counseling Honors Society; and Chi Sigma Iota, the National Counseling Honors Society.

Kevin finds the Charlotte area rich in opportunities, and he enjoys movies, reading and writing, and eating out at Dolce Restaurant.

Kevin says, "I like working in Housing and Residence Life because it gives me the opportunity to directly make a positive difference in someone's life. I am in a position to help people grow, develop and become responsible, healthy contributors to society, [people] who will, in turn, make a positive difference in the lives of others."


Ms. Jennifer Grim

Jenn has worked in Student Affairs for several years, having been a Resident Advisor for two years at Eastern Illinios University, Assistant Hall Director for two years at Indiana State University and also was an ACUHO-I intern for two summers, first at Susquehanna University and then at UNC Wilmington. Jenn earned a BA in English from Eastern Illinois University and a Masters Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education from Indiana State University.

Jenn calls Southport, NC her hometown. She enjoys professional involvement in ACPA, SEAHO, and GLACUHO. She's also proud to be a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.

Since moving to Charlotte, Jenn likes eating out at Buffalo Wild Wings, Yoshi's, and Picasso's. She's an avid Target shopper - delighted to finally have one close enough to satisfy her shopping urges. She enjoys NASCAR at Lowe's Motor Speedway, and really likes watching Chicago Bears football and Chicago Cubs baseball at Stool Pigeons. She likes going anywhere as long as it's in the company of family and friends.


Jennifer Hamblin

Jennifer is a Residence Coordinator in our vibrant Phase V complex, which includes Oak, Elm, Maple, and Pine Halls. Jennifer joined the UNC Charlotte team from Rhodes College where she was an Assistant Director of Residence Life (GA). She has also worked as an RA at Centenary College of Louisiana and was an ACUHO-I Intern for Summer Sport Camp Activities (2005). Jennifer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Centenary College of Louisiana and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Memphis.

Why Jennifer was attracted to this position at UNC Charlotte: "The people at UNC-Charlotte is what drew me to this position. I think working in housing can be very draining at times, and it is important to have a support network that can help you get through the tough times, and to celebrate with you during the good times. UNC-Charlotte has a housing department filled with people with good attitudes and an enjoyment for life. The people were my first impression of the school, and it was a good first impression."


Zach Kendra

Zach is a Residence Coordinator in Hawthorn Hall, which houses the Engineering Learning Community. Prior to working UNC Charlotte, Zach worked as an Assistant Complex Director for two years at the University of Kansas and was an RA while working on his bachelor's degree. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration (Economics and Management) from Grand Valley Sate University and his Master of Science degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Kansas. Zach is also a member of ACPA.

Zach likes working for UNC Charlotte because he gets "to work with a great group of students and professionals. (He has also) been able to get involved across campus and meet many of our campus leaders." His favorite thing about living here is that "there is always something to do."


Tara Hummer Knitz

Residence Coordinator -Witherspoon Hall

Tara is the Residence Coordinator for Witherspoon Hall, and has been Residence Coordinator for Scott Hall before moving to Witherspoon for Fall 2008. Tara came to HRL with the experience of having been Residence Hall Director at the University of Central Missouri for two years. Tara's education was at the University of Central Missouri for her Masters in College Student Personnel Administration degree and at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington for her Bachelors in Sociology.

Tara's home state is Washington, in the Seattle area. Since moving to Charlotte, she entertains herself by going to her favorite restaurant, The Melting Pot, going to movies and spending time with her friends, and enjoys the fact that everything she wants to do is within 10-15 minutes of the campus of UNC Charlotte.

Tara likes working for HRL because "As RCs and GAs, our strengths are celebrated. It is a place to build confidence as a professional. We are given the autonomy we need, but the support and guidance are always there when needed."


Sarah Rossini

Sarah is currently the Residence Coordinator for Laurel Hall. Before joining Housing and Residence Life, she completed her Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. She received her BA in Psychology from Merrimack College in Mansfield, Massachusetts. She also was a Resident Director at Merrimack College from 2004-2007.

Sarah enjoys being involved in professional organizations, and in Massachusetts was active in NEAUCHO.

Since moving to Charlotte, she has found fun things to do outside of work - visiting her current favorite restaurant (Ciros), spending time with friends, getting to know people, and in quiet moments, reading for enjoyment.

Sarah says about working for HRL, "The staff is amazing and great fun to work with! I also love working with the students and hearing all of their great stories and interacting with them daily."


Walter M. Snipes

Walter is the Residence Coordinator for the Greek Village at UNC Charlotte and works with our Greek programs. Before coming to UNC, Walter worked for the Office of University Housing at Emory University, serving as a Community Manager and a Mailroom Manager (both at the Clairmont Campus). Walter has also served as a House Director for Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and was a Manager of Facilities and Laundry at Emory's Office of University Conferences. Walter is a member of ACPA, NASPA, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Mathematics and Religion from Emory College and a Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology.

Walter likes working for Housing and Residence Life because of the opportunity "to learn in an ever changing environment." He has learned, however, how to "work with style(s) different from (his) own" and how to blend the styles of his supervisor with his own.


Clyde Wilson

Clyde is the Residence Coordinator for Sanford Hall, which is part of The Greenhouse. He earned his undergraduate degree in Recreation Administration from North Carolina A&T State University, and his Masters in International Studies with a specialization in International Tourism Development from NC State University. Clyde calls Fayetteville his hometown.

Clyde enjoys being part of professional organizations and is a member of NASPA.

Since coming to Charlotte, Clyde has found many "favorites," among them Buffalo Wild Wings, the Cheesecake Factory, Ishi, Kabutos, Chicken Box's and Showmar's restaurants, poetry lounges, Charlotte Bobcats games, Blumenthal performances, and movies.

Clyde says that he was attracted to the position in Housing & Residence Life because "UNC Charlotte is in a place of transition and I have a chance to learn a lot." In Housing & Residence Life, he has "the autonomy to diversify my experiences within the Division of Student Affairs." Clyde says that most of all, the job has taught him how to be patient.
