Anti-Malware software is often referred to by the more common name, anti-spyware software. This software works with your anti-virus software to identify and remove threats to your computer that come from sources other than viruses or worms (which are removed by the anti-virus software). Anti-spyware software looks "under the hood" of your computer at a couple of different items, including:
As the anti-spyware goes through your computer, it will flag the suspected problems to you and then allow you to make a decision on whether it should be left alone, repaired, removed, or quarantined. In most cases, you should opt to remove the offending item(s), unless you are certain that the item is not malware or spyware. Some anti-spyware software will also look for ad-ware problems, however, anti-spyware programs can miss bad ad-ware or report good ad-ware as a problem. In this case, we recommend using a tool that was designed to look for ad-ware. You should definitely use an anti-ad-ware program if you are experiencing problems like: pop-up ads appearing on your computer at random, your Internet browser taking you to weird websites on its own, or an increase in the amount of spam you in your e-mail in box.
