Telecommunication provides phone service to resident students through a network of Intecom switches. A single analog phone line is provided in each room. Standard features include voice mail, call waiting, last number redial, and 3-way dialing. Additional phone lines for computer use are available at an additional cost (Private Phone Lines) Distinctive Ringing: Niner Phone Service provides distinctive ringing for on campus and off campus calls: ONE ring repeated every few seconds means an on campus party is calling. 3-Way Calling: As the originator of the call, you can add a third party to the conversation. The steps below are for adding that party: 1. Depress the switch hook 2. Hear 'Enter' 3. Key in # 1 4. Dial extension number, or dial 9 + outside number 5. Advise called party this is a 3 party call 6. Depress the switch hook 7. Hear 'Enter' 8. Key in #1 9. Talk to both parties
1. Hang up 2. Lift receiver 3. Hear "Conference" 4. Key in #1 Call Back: The Callback feature automatically calls you back (with 3 rings) when the busy on-campus extension you are trying to reach becomes free. When you answer, you hear the extension you called begin to ring. If you ignore the ring back, the called extension does not ring and the phone system cancels the callback. You can only Callback on one extension at a time; this feature is only effective for on-campus extensions. Leave a Callback on a busy extension: 1. Listen for busy signal, depress switch hook 2. Hear 'Enter', key in *7 3. Hang up Abbreviated Dialing: Abbreviated dialing allows you to use one-digit codes to dial the off-campus numbers you use most frequently. You make your own directory containing up to 10 off-campus numbers, and you assign each number an abbreviated dial code (0 to 9). Ten abbreviated dial codes are available per residential extension number. To set-up an abbreviated dial code: 1. Lift receiver - listen for dial tone 2. Key in # 4 * and the abbreviated dial code (0 to 9) 3. Hear 1 beep - dial 9 and the off-campus number4. Hear 2 beeps - hang-up To make an abbreviated dial call: 1. Lift receiver - listen for dial tone 2. Key in # 4 and the abbreviated dial code Call Waiting: The Call Waiting feature notifies you of a second, incoming call. The indication of a call waiting will be a ring in your ear. You may connect with the second call using the steps described below or you may ignore the ring. If you ignore the ring, the second caller will continue to hearing ringing and will be automatically routed to Voice Mail. To answer Call Waiting: 1. (After hearing the ring) Depress the switch hook for 1/2 second 2. Hear "Enter" 3. Key in *4 4. Hang up 5. The telephone rings 6. Lift the receiver (activate the phone) to speak with the waiting caller 1. Depress the switch hook 2. Hear 'Enter' 3. Key in *4 1. Depress the switch hook for 1 second 2. Hear 'Held' 3. Key in *4*If you do not want the Call Waiting feature, contact Niner Phone Service at extension 3000. All roommates must agree to the cancellation of the Call Waiting feature.
