  Telephone Features

Telecommunication provides phone service to resident students through a network of Intecom switches. A single analog phone line is provided in each room. Standard features include voice mail, call waiting, last number redial, and 3-way dialing.   Additional phone lines for computer use are available at an additional cost (Private Phone Lines)

Distinctive Ringing: Niner Phone Service provides distinctive ringing for on campus and off campus calls:

ONE ring repeated every few seconds means an on campus party is calling.
TWO short rings repeated every few seconds indicates an off campus party is calling.

The steps below are for adding that party:

Call Back: The Callback feature automatically calls you back (with 3 rings) when the busy on-campus extension you are trying to reach becomes free. When you answer, you hear the extension you called begin to ring. If you ignore the ring back, the called extension does not ring and the phone system cancels the callback. You can only Callback on one extension at a time; this feature is only effective for on-campus extensions.

Abbreviated  Dialing: Abbreviated dialing allows you to use one-digit codes to dial the off-campus numbers you use most frequently. You make your own directory containing up to 10 off-campus numbers, and you assign each number an abbreviated dial code (0 to 9). Ten abbreviated dial codes are available per residential extension number.

To set-up an abbreviated dial code:

1. Lift receiver - listen for dial tone

Call  Waiting: The Call Waiting feature notifies you of a second, incoming call. The indication of a call waiting will be a ring in your ear. You may connect with the second call using the steps described below or you may ignore the ring. If you ignore the ring, the second caller will continue to hearing ringing and will be automatically routed to Voice Mail.
